Award-winning independent film, Parallel Chords, goes to the American Film Market
A St. Louis-produced feature film heads to the American Film Market, which kicked off this week in Santa Monica, California. The music-driven narrative explores issues of consent and control from a female artist’s perspective. Parallel Chords won Best Narrative Feature Film, Cinematography, and Production Design at the 2018 St. Louis Filmmaker’s Showcase and went on to be selected for the Emerging Director section of the St. Louis International Film Festival.
Parallel Chords is distributed by Indie Rights and recently had a theatrical release with 10 screenings in Los Angeles. St. Louis writer / director Catherine Dudley-Rose chose between a number of distributors after the film screened at several festivals. At the LA Femme International Film Festival sponsored by the Writer’s Guild of America, West, Catherine received the Best Feature Writer Award after Academy Award Winning “Dallas Buyers Club” producer Rachel Winter accepted an honorary award. This year, Dudley-Rose will be on the jury of the Emerging Director section of SLIFF.
“In order for small films like this to have a life and do well nationally and internationally, it’s important to make sure that the local film and arts community knows about it,” Dudley-Rose explains. The film is now available in 68 countries, and can be watched on Amazon, Googleplay, and Youtube. Additional screenings in select cities TBA, and will be listed on the film’s website, www.parallelchords.com and social media platforms. The film stars AMDA graduate Rachel Ann, and Bjorn Johnson (Counterpart, Mad Men, Dexter) Laura Kirk (American Honey, Lisa Picard is Famous).
“Parallel Chords beautifully hits on the themes of living dreams through our children, a child’s innate need to please their elders, and our personal drive towards independence, individuality, and freedom.
As Jaqueline Archer, Rachel Ann is terrific as the woman pushed to her limits to ultimately take control of her own life. …the conflicted soul in search of a voice.”
